Have you ever dreamed of breathing underwater, swimming alongside sea turtles and discovering a completely different world beneath the surface? The PADI Open Water Diver course is the most recognized scuba certification in the world and your gateway to a lifetime of underwater adventures. At Yemanyá Expeditions we don’t just teach you to dive: we take you to live a transformative experience in one of the most impressive marine destinations in Costa Rica, Caño Island. While many divers get certified in conventional places, you will learn surrounded by reefs, huge schools of tropical fish, sea turtles, rays, reef sharks and, depending on the season, even dolphins and whales. From Drake Bay we have privileged access to some of the best dive sites of Caño Island, so you can learn in a truly extraordinary natural setting.

Day 1 – Pool and basic skills. We start by learning the fundamentals of diving in a controlled, safe environment. During this session you will learn the correct use of the scuba equipment, underwater breathing techniques, buoyancy control, underwater communication, safety procedures and how to solve common diving situations. Our goal is for you to feel comfortable, safe and confident before your first dives in the ocean. Day 2 – Caño Island. Time to take your skills to the real world. You will complete two training dives in the protected waters of Caño Island, where you will keep developing your skills while exploring one of the most important marine ecosystems in Costa Rica. Between dives you will enjoy the scenery, the nature and the unique experience of sailing from Drake Bay to the island. Day 3 – Caño Island. You will complete your two final certification dives. At the end of this day you will have demonstrated the skills needed to officially become a PADI Open Water Diver, with an internationally recognized certification that allows you to dive down to 18 meters (60 feet) anywhere in the world with another certified diver.
Because we believe that learning to dive should be a personal, exciting and unforgettable experience. We work with small groups to give you the attention you deserve and adapt to your learning pace. Our team knows Caño Island as its home and is committed to offering a safe, professional and authentic experience. We are waiting for you in Drake Bay to begin your underwater adventure!
